Project Overview
Mongolia Copper Mine Concentrate Storage
Project Details
| Country | Mongolia |
| Industry | Mining |
| Material | Copper Concentrate |
| Capacity | 10,000 tons |
| Commissioning | Commissioning in winter conditions (-30°C) required special procedures. The heat tracing and insulation system proved effective. Performance test confirmed reliable discharge at -35°C. |
Customer Requirement
A copper mine in the Gobi Desert needed concentrate storage capable of operating in extreme conditions: -40°C winter temperatures, high winds, remote location with limited infrastructure. Requirements: 10,000t capacity, abrasion resistance, and modular construction for remote site assembly.
Engineering Solution
Manxing designed a 10,000t bolted steel silo with Hardox 500 wear lining and low-temperature steel (Q345E, -40°C impact rated). The modular bolted design minimized site welding in the remote location. The silo includes insulation and heat tracing for the discharge cone to prevent freezing. The discharge system uses a heavy-duty belt feeder rated for the dense, abrasive concentrate.
Project Results
The silo has operated reliably through 3 Mongolian winters. The modular design reduced site construction time by 40% compared to welded alternatives. The mine has ordered a second silo for expansion.
